Learn how to open two browser pages in a split view or side-by-side in Safari on the iPad.

Have you ever wanted to view web pages side-by-side in Safari on the iPad? With iPadOS 15, Apple made this simple to do! Just drage a browser tab to the left or right of your iPad and it will open in a split view with your other browser page. See how this works in this video for Safari on the iPad.

Video TranscriptIn this video, we’re going to look at how we can open up browser tabs in a split view in Safari on the iPad. Let’s go to my iPad.

So I’m looking at Safari here, and actually you can do this with any browser. I’m just going to use Safari. I’m a Safari fan. So I’m looking at Safari here and let’s go and open up a new tab. To do that, we have a number of different ways to do that, but one way is just by tapping on the plus up here in the upper right-hand corner. And now I’m looking at my new tab. Now I can go to a different website, so let’s go over to Yahoo. So now I have two tabs open. Let’s go back over to my site. Another way of opening up a tab.

If you have a keyboard, I have a smart keyboard. I have an iPad pro with a smart keyboard. I believe this works with any keyboard, but all you have to do is just command, click on the link. So when I hold down the command key, and then I click it, opens it up in a new browser. So that’s how we can open up our tabs, our windows, our browser windows into separate taps.

But now what we can also do with iPadOS 15 are introduced in iPadOS 15 is open up a couple of these browser tabs in split view. So let’s say I wanted to have this, ask me anything page open as well as my Dan’s Tutorials page. I want to have both of them open up in a split. Well being that I have my tabs open, I have my two webpages and a tap.

All I have to do is just take one of these tabs and I drag it over to the side. So I’m going to take this one here. And I drag it over to the side here. You can see that it’s starting to split open. All I have to do is just let go. And now those two pages that are open up in split view. Let’s do that again.

I’m going to. Swipe over to the right to close my split view. We have another tab here. I’m going to take this Yahoo this time. I want it open up on the left side. So what do you think I do? All I have to do is just drag this down and I bring it over to the left side and you’re going to see it starting to split open.

I drop it. And now that is open in a split view. We have another way of doing this. I’m looking at Yahoo news. Let’s say what I wanted to do was open. This page here in a split view. Well, if I hold down the control key again, I’m using the keyboard. So I hold down the control key, and then I click, you’re going to see open and split view.

I select this and it’ll open up in split view. I can also, if I do not have a keyboard, I can also long press on it. So I have my finger here and I just long press on it. You’re going to see that. Open and split view. So even if you do not have a keyboard, you can do it just by tapping and holding on the link.

So those are the different ways that we can open up multiple browser windows, or multiple tabs into a split view. If you have two tabs open, you just take one of the tabs and you drag it over to the left, or right. When you do that, you’ll be able to open it up and split view. You’ll be able to see both of your tabs are both of your browser windows side by side.

You can also control-click. If you have a keyboard just control, click on the link and then select open and split view. And then if you do not have a keyboard, you can also just long press or tap and hold on any one of the links. And then you’re going to get a menu that pops up and you can open it up in split view.

So those are the different ways that you can open up a browser window or multiple browser windows or tabs and split you on the iPad.
