With Tab Groups, what you are able to do is focus on a specific group of websites and easily switch between your different groups. See how Tab Groups work in this videof or Safari on the iPhone.

Video TranscriptIn this video, we’re going to look at tab groups in Safari on the iPhone. Tab groups were introduced with iOS 15, and what we’re able to do is group our different tabs together. Let’s see how this works on the iPhone. Let’s go to my iPhone.

So I’m in Safari here. Let’s take a look at all of my open web pages or tabs. To do that, all I do is just tap on the tab button here, and I can see all of my different web pages or tabs that are open. So I have several tabs that are to my site Dan’s Tutorials. I also have a couple of sites to some local news. And then if I scroll up, you’re going to see, I have a site for Apple. Now, what I would like to do is group these together. So maybe my news sites. my mLive, which is a local news site, as well as Holland Sentinel. I’d like to group those together, those two tabs together. So then when I’m looking at my news, I’m only looking at my new sites and when I’m working, I’m only looking at. The pages that are to my site. Maybe I want to add Apple to that group.

This is what tab groups do on the iPhone. We basically are able to group all of our different tabs together, so then we can focus on a specific group of websites. I’m working. I only want to see the sites that I’m working on or the pages that I’m working on. I do not want to see my pages for the Holland Sentinel. I only want to see my pages that have to do with my site. So what I need to do is I need to group these together.

Now, there are several ways to create these groups. Since I’m looking at all of my tabs right now, the easiest way is to just go down to the bottom and where you see Six Tabs. When you tap on it, and now you’re going to see I can create a new empty tab group, or I can create a new tab group from the six tabs.

So let’s create a couple of tab groups here. Let’s create a new empty tab group. First I tap on New Empty Tab Group. Let’s just call this News. I tap on Save and now I have my new tab grip. Remember, this is empty. So there is nothing in there right now. Let’s create another new tab group. I just go down to the bottom where it says News. And from here I tap on New Empty Tab Group. This one, we’re going to call Work. And now I have two different tab groups.

When I go down here to where it says Work, what I’m able to do is switch between my two different tab groups. I want to view all of my websites that are news. I tap on News. I’d be able to view all of my websites that are news. I want to go back to work. I want to view all the websites that are pertaining to work. I tap on Work. And now I can view all those websites.

Now, right now they are empty. Where did those six different tabs go? Well, they are not in a group. So when I go back down here to the bottom, you’re going to see it says Six Tabs. These are ungrouped. So now I tap on this and there are my ungrouped tabs.

Now what I want to do is I want to move these to those different groups. How do we do that? Well, all we have to do is just tap and hold, and then you’re going to see Move To Tab Group. So now I tap on this and then I tap on which tab group I want it to go in. So I’m going to tap on Work. And now that website. Dan’s Tutorials, is and my Work tab group.

So let’s do that a few more times. I’m just going to tap and hold on each one of these individually. And then I go to Move To Tab Group and I select the tab group. This is another one for Work. We’re going to do that again, Move To Tab Group, and this one’s for Work. This one is going to go to News. So I tap on News, and this one is also going to go to News. And let’s put this one into Work. So I tap and hold, Move To Tab Group, and now I go to Work.

So now when I go back and forth between those groups, let’s go and open up my tabs here. I have my Start Page. I tap on this and we have our two different groups. What do you think we’re going to see when I go to work? My website, along with Apple’s website. I want to view my News. I tap on Work and then I go over to News. And now I’m looking at the two news websites. I want to go back to work. I tap on News, and I go back to Work.

There is an easier way to switch between these different groups. Right now. I’m looking at them as tabs or thumbnails. So let’s go and tap on Done. I’m looking at my website here. I want to view my news. I want to go to that tab group that is News. Well, all I have to do is just long press on our tabs here, and you’re going to see my groups. I tap on News. Now I’m looking at my news. I want to go back to my work. I long press on this and now I can go back to work. I want to move this over to my news. Let’s say this is a news site. I long press on this, and what I’m able to do is move this to a new tab group.

So that’s how we can create tab groups in Safari on iPhone. There are a few different ways to do this. You can do this when you’re looking at all of your tabs as thumbnails, or what you can do is just long press on the tab icon in the lower right-hand corner. From there, you’re able to create new tab groups. You can move your current website to a different tab group, and then you can also just switch to a different tab group.

So that’s how we work with tab groups in Safari on the iPhone.
