Export your Slideshow

In this video, we’re going to look at how we can export our slideshows from Keynote on the Mac, we can export them as movies, images, PowerPoint files, or even as a website. Let’s see how we do this. Let’s go to my Mac. Now, if I want to export my Keynote presentation, or maybe I want to export it out as a PDF or as a PowerPoint file, so then you can open up on PowerPoint. The way that we do that is we go up to file in our Menu Bar, and then we go down to export to, you’re going to see over on the right we have a number of sub options here, I can export this out as a PDF, a PowerPoint file, a movie, an animated GIF, images, HTML, which was what we would use for a website, or even a Keynote, oh nine, which is the old version of Keynote.

Now from here, it really doesn’t matter which one I select, I could select animated GIF here and then change it into a PDF. Even if I selected animated GIF. The reason is, is no matter which option I choose here, it does take you to the export window. And then from there, you can change what you want to export it to. So let’s say I export it out as a PDF here, I just select PDF, we have our export window that opens up, and you’re going to see it says Export your presentation. Now from here, what I’m able to do is select how I want to export it out.

Because I selected PDF, it did go and select PDF here. But if I wanted to export this out as a movie, all I have to do is just go over here to movie, and it brings me to all of the movie options. So when you go on export it if you select a wrong option here, you can easily change it to something else. So now let’s go back over to PDF. And we’re going to go through these different options we have available to us. So let’s select PDF, our window opens up and it automatically select a PDF. Now PDF is much like printing, what we can do is we can include our presenter notes, we can print out each stage of the builds, it’s going to print it out in a PDF, I can set the image quality, the better quality I go, the larger the file will be, the larger the PDF will be. I can also include skipped slides, if we skipped a slide I can include those skipped slides in my PDF. And then I can include comments.

To export it out as a PowerPoint file, we just go over to PowerPoint here, we do not have a lot of options with PowerPoint, I can require a password to open it up. And then I can set what type of PowerPoint extension is going to use. Just click on this and select between PPT X and PPT pptx XP in the newer file format. If I were to click on Next, I would be able to name it and then transfer it over to a PC or open it up within PowerPoint on the Mac. We also have movies here. When I go to movie I can set if I want it to be self playing, which means it’s just going to play based on the timing of the transitions and builds. Or if you didn’t include a narration or a soundtrack, you can export that out based on the Slideshow Recording. So if you narrated it, it’s going to go at the same speed as when you narrated it, we can set which slides we want to include when we export this out as a movie.

So you could export just a couple of the slides out if you wanted. And then we can set when it is going to go to the next slide. Being that this is a movie it is self running. So when do you want it to go to the next slide. By default, it’s going to wait five seconds and then go to the next slide. With each build, it’s going to wait two seconds and then go to the next build. We can also set the resolution here. With animated GIFs. We can set which slides we want to export. This just makes an animated GIF, so you can easily put it on a website a specific slide, I would not recommend doing more than one slide at a time. But if you wanted to make an animated GIF out of a slide, all you have to do is just select which side you want to export out. You select the resolution what the frame rate is, and then click on Next. Name it and export it out. We also have images here. What this will do is this will export each slide as an image. We can select which slides all of them are specific slides. And then we can also set if we want to create an image for each build and what the quality is. So right now being that I have all selected here. If I were to click on Next, it would create about 10 different images because I have 10 different slides. If I included the builds here then it would create a lot more images it probably be closer to 50 because I have quite a few builds in here.

We can also set if we want to export it out as a website HTML There aren’t a whole lot of options here. Basically, if I click on Next, it’s going to create a folder with an index file, you double click on that index file, it’s going to open up in Safari, and then you can browse the presentation through Safari. If you have FTP access to a website, you could even upload it to that website, and then create a link to it. So then anyone online will be able to view that presentation as well. And then our last option here is for Keynote, oh nine, Keynote, oh nine is an older version of Keynote. Apple created it back in the early 2000s. They discontinued it, and about 2009 and replaced it with the newer version of Keynote. But some people still use Keynote oh nine, it did have more features.

So if someone is still using Keynote, oh nine, it’s probably getting pretty rare now because it won’t run on newer Macs. But if you aren’t using Keynote, oh nine or know someone that is what you can do is export it out as a Keynote oh nine file, click on next, name it and it’ll convert it into an oh nine file Keynote oh nine file. So those are different exporting options we have with Keynote on the Mac. As you can see, it’s pretty simple. We just go up to file and then we go to export, and we select what we want to export it as. After we select it, we can go and change what we want to export it as so in other words, if we selected movie, we can go and change it to images. Some of them are pretty basic, there are not a lot of options, while other ones have more options. As an example with movie we have a lot more options with exporting our Keynote presentation out as a movie than as we do as HTML. But basically all we have to do is just go up under file, you go to export and select what you want to export it out as set your options are pretty self explanatory, and then click on Next. You select where you want to save it to and then name your file. So those are our different exporting options we have with Keynote on the Mac
