Add a Soundtrack to Your Keynote Presentation on the Mac

In this video, we’re going to look at how we can add background audio as a soundtrack in our Keynote presentation, let’s go to my Mac. Now when we add background audio as a soundtrack, what it will do is it’ll play throughout the entire presentation just plays in the background, it doesn’t really matter which slide you’re on. So it works a little bit different than adding audio to a slide.

If you’ve watched my video on adding audio to a slide, it will only play on that slide. So how do we add audio as a soundtrack? Well, all we have to do is just go up to our documents, settings, and our toolbar here. And then you’re going to see audio. When I click on Audio, here, you’re going to see soundtrack, all I need to do is just add my soundtrack here, and you can add more than one song. And then once you add that, when you play your presentation, it’s going to play in the background, it’s going to play across all of your different slides.

Now I can add music by drag and drop, I can go to my Finder here and drag and drop from a folder that has some music in it. Or if I have my music in the music app, what I can do is I can click on the plus here, that’s what I’m going to do. So I click on this, and I have all of my music and my music app, I’m going to add these two songs here. So all I have to do is just select them, I click on the plus again, and I select the second one. And we can see we have those two songs in there. So now that I have those two songs in there, what do I want it to do, once it gets through those two songs, I can have it loop. Or what I can do is I can have it just play once. If I do not want to have it on at all, I can also just turn this off, so it is not going to have that soundtrack. So it’s a way that you could add the music but turn it off temporarily. I’m going to have it loop. So once that music gets done, it’s going to start over again.

So I constantly have music as I’m given the presentation. And then we can also set the volume. So I’m going to select a song here, I can select the volume, you can see it’s set pretty low, because usually you want background music to be a little bit softer. I’m going to turn this up a little bit so we can hear it. Now when you adjust this volume, it does adjust for all of the music in your soundtrack. So even though I have this one selected here, it does adjust it for this one as well. So if I go and select this one, and I turn it up a little bit, you’re going to see that when I go to my first one here, it is also turned up, so it adjusts it for both. So now I’ve just added a soundtrack. Let’s see how this works, it’s going to be a little bit loud. While you might be able to hear it as a little bit, it’s going to be a little bit louder than what I would recommend when you’re given a presentation. But being that my setup has my microphone here, I had to turn it up a little bit. So I’m going to click on play here.

And if we listen, you’re going to hear that music concerts a little bit quiet. And it’s going to play throughout the entire presentation. Now as I go to the next slide, that music will keep playing. Also, if I come across a slide that has music in it, or has a movie with sound, that music or that movie will continue playing with the sound as well. So it’s going to play both of them at the same time. But as you can see, it’s just playing in the background. And as I go through my presentation, it’ll continue playing when it gets done. When my presentation gets done, what it will do is it will loop and start playing again. It’s going to play both of these songs as my soundtrack.

So that’s how we can add background audio, or audio as a soundtrack and Keynote on the Mac. Basically, all we have to do is just go to our document settings and then we go to Audio. From there, we can drag and drop our different music that we want to have as our soundtrack. You can have multiple songs. You’ll then want to set if you want it to repeat or if you just want to play once. You can also turn it off, set your volume and then all you have to do is just play your presentation. And that background audio that soundtrack will play throughout the entire presentation. So that’s how you add background audio as a soundtrack and Keynote on the Mac.
