In this video, we’re going to look at how we can have Safari translate websites to our preferred language. As an example, let’s say I was at a website that was in a different language; I prefer to have English; what I can now do is have Safari translate that website that’s in another language to English. Let’s see how we translate websites with Safari. Let’s go to my Mac.
The first thing we need to do as we need to open up Safari. Now let’s say I was reading an article that was in another language. I’m going to go to Telemundo up here. This is in Spanish. Let’s go ahead and click on this article. Now, what I want to do is I want to read this article. I do not know Spanish. So what I need to do is I need to translate this into English. Well, now with Safari, what we can easily do is translate websites from one language to another. You translate it to your preferred language, mine being English.
How do we do that? Well, all we have to do is just go up to our address bar here and then over to the right; you’re going to see we have this little icon here with an a and a caption bubble. When I click on this, I can translate this to English, English being my preferred language. I’ll talk about the preferred language here shortly. So now I just select this, and we can see that it translated it to English. So now I can read this article. To bring it back, all we do is go back up to our bubbles here; I click on it, and then we go to view original. Select it, and now it is back in Spanish. So now, let’s take a look at our preferred language. You’re going to see when you go back up to the top here; we have preferred language. When I select this, what I’m able to do is select what my preferred language is. You can see that mine is set to English. If I want to add another language, all I have to do is click on the plus here, and I can select from another language. Once I set my preferred languages, what I’m able to do then when I see a website that is not in my preferred language is easily translated to my preferred language.
So that’s how we translate our websites in Safari. We can translate a website that is written in another language to our preferred language to do that. You just go up to the address bar and then go over to the right; you’re going to see a couple of bubbles there, click on the bubbles, and then from there, you’re able to translate it. You’re also able to set what your preferred language is at that point.
