Delete Screenshots taken with the iPad and iPhone

In this video, I’m going to show you how you can find all of the screenshots that you’ve taken in the Photos app and then how you can remove them. We’ve all taken various screenshots accidentally. Well, now with the Photos app, what we’re able to do is find those screenshots and then easily delete the ones we didn’t intend to keep. Let’s see how we do this. Let’s go to my Mac.

So, as I mentioned in the introduction, we’ve probably all have done it. We open up our iPhone, we open up our iPad, and we’ve accidentally taken a screenshot. Well, with the Photos app, what we’re able to do is find all of those screenshots, and then we can delete the ones that we no longer want to keep.

Now, before I show you how this works, there is one requirement. You do need to be using iCloud Photos. With iCloud Photos, your photo library is stored in the cloud, and then you’re able to access your photos and videos from all of your different devices. So if I were to add a photo to my iPhone, take a photo with my iPhone, it’ll show up on my Mac. In this case, if I were to take a screenshot on my iPhone or my iPad, maybe accidentally, it’ll also show up on my Mac. So we do need to use iCloud Photos for this to work. I’m using iCloud photos. So now, let’s see how I can find all of my screenshots that I’ve taken with my different devices, my iPad, and my iPhone.

How do we do that? Well, the first thing we need to do is we need to go to our Media Types. This is where we can see all of our different media types, such as live photos or portraits, or long exposure photos. Well, one of the media types is Screenshots. If you use iCloud Photos, which means that when you take a photo on your iPhone, it’s also going to show up on your Mac when you take a screenshot, that screenshot is also going to show up on your Mac and it’s going to show up in this album automatically. So if you’re using iCloud Photos and you click on this album, what you’re going to be able to see is all of the different screenshots that you’ve taken. So now what I’m able to do is find all of those screenshots and delete them.

So let’s say I no longer wanted to keep this photo here or this screenshot here; it was an accident. I just select it, and then I hit the Delete key. I confirm that I want to delete it. And that photo is no longer in my library, or that screenshot is no longer in my library.

So if you’ve taken a lot of screenshots, what you may want to do is take a look at your screenshots here and delete the ones you do not want to keep.

So that’s how we can find and delete our screenshots in the Photos app on the Mac. We have an album under Media Types called Screenshots. If you’re using iCloud Photos, when you take a screenshot on your iPhone, it will show up in the Screenshots album or media type on your Mac. Just select Screenshots, select the photos you want to delete, and delete them. Once you delete them, they will no longer be in your library. It’s going to remove them from all of your different devices.

So that’s how we can find and delete our screenshots in the Photos app on the Mac.
