In this video, we will look at how we can mention a name in the Messages app on the iPad. When we mentioned someone’s name, they’ll get an alert saying that their name has been mentioned in a conversation. Let’s see how this works. Let’s go to my iPad.
Let’s first open up the Messages app when we are in a conversation where we have more than two people in a conversation. What we can do is we can mention a person’s name from that conversation. And then they will get an alert saying that their name has been mentioned.
Now, why would you want to do this? Well, it’s pretty easy to get lost in a conversation when you have a lot of people in a group conversation. Now what you can do to pull someone back in that conversation has mentioned their name, then the iPad or the iPhone, whatever device they’re on will say, hey, someone mentioned you.
So, how do we mention someone? Well, all we have to do is go down to our message here. So Beth is asking me about lunch tomorrow. So I want to reply to Beth. I want to mention her name. So she gets an alert saying that I mentioned her name to do that.
All I have to do is tap in here and, I will type in. Sure. And then I type in her name when I type in her name, being that she’s part of this conversation, you’re going to see that it is grayed out. This is telling me that I can set it up to mention her name. I have two more steps I need to do before I mentioned her name.
Right now, it’s telling me that I can mention her name, but I’m not going to mention her name. I need to tap on it. And then I need to tap on her name. Now we can see that it is blue. And when I send this message, she is going to get an alert, a notification saying that someone mentioned her name. So now I send them as we can see it turned bold.
And on her device, she just got a notification saying that someone mentioned her name in this conversation. So if she were to go to her device and reply, And mentioned my name. I would get a notification as well.
Now there’s one setting for this. You’ll need to make sure that the iPad is set up to notify you if your name is mentioned. To do that, we need to go to our Settings app. So I’m going to press in on the Home button. And then I go over to my Settings app. From here, what we need to do is we need to go to our Messages settings. You’re going to see an option for; I’m going to swipe up here for mentions. We need to make sure that this is turned on. When this is turned on, you’ll be notified when your name is mentioned, even if the conversation is muted.
So that’s how mentions work with the Messages app on the iPad. What we’re able to do is mention someone’s name in a conversation. When you mentioned their name, don’t get a notification that someone in that conversation mentioned their name, or you want to make sure that notifications are set to notify you. If your name is mentioned, you do this in the settings app.
So that’s how mentions work in the Messages app on the iPad.
