Pin Conversations

In this video, we’re going to look at how we can pin conversations in the Messages app on the iPhone. This was introduced with iOS 14. Let’s take a look at pinning conversations. Let’s go to my iPhone.

Now, the first thing we need to do is we need to open up our Messages app. When we’re looking at our Messages app here, these are what we call conversations. It’s a conversation between you and someone else or between you and a group of people. Well, if you chat with a lot of different people, you’re going to have a long list here of different conversations. What you can now do with your favorite conversations, are your favorite people, is pin a conversation to the top here. So then that conversation is always available to you at the top.

How do we pin a conversation? Well, all we need to do, I’m going to pin Beth here, my wife; I like to have her conversations at the top, so they’re easily accessible. To pin it, all I have to do is just swipe over to the right on it, and you’re going to see, we have this pin. I can tap on it, or what I can do is I can just swipe all the way over without tapping on it, and now he can see that it put Beth up here at the top.

Let’s go and pin another conversation. I have this group conversation with my friends. I want to pin it. I want it to be at the top. So it’s always available. All I have to do is just swipe over to the right, and now we can see we have my two pinned conversations.

All of my other conversations are going to be listed below here. And those are going to act normally, which means the latest conversation is going to be up at the top here. So if you have a conversation with someone, maybe once a month or on a less frequent basis, but you always want to have that conversation accessible, what I would recommend doing is pinning the conversation. So then it’s always up at the top.

What about unpinning conversation? Maybe I no longer want to have my friends up at the top here. All you do is just tap and hold or long-press, and then you’re going to see unpin. I tap on this, and now we can see it’s back in our standard conversation list.

So that’s how we pin our conversations in the Messages app on the iPhone. Again, this was introduced with iOS 14. When we pin a conversation, it will always appear at the top of our messages list or our conversation list. To pin, we just swipe over to the right on the conversation, and it’ll put it up at the top. To unpin it, we tap and hold on it or long-press on it, and then you’re going to see a menu where we have unpin.
