In this video, we’re going to take a look at how we can add emojis and symbols to our documents on the Mac. Let’s go to my Mac.
Let’s open up my Notes app. Looking at this note here, and what I would like to do is add an emoji here, or maybe I want to add the Copywrite or trademark symbol. I’m not sure how to do that. I know there’s a key command on the keyboard to do that, but I can’t remember what that is. Well, to add an emoji or symbol, all you have to do is just go up under Edit in the menu bar, and then you’re going to see at the very bottom Emojis & Symbols. This is available from within any app that takes text. I select this, and we have a new window that opens up, and from here, I can select from all of my different emojis, and if I keep scrolling, it’s also going to show me different symbols, such as the copyright symbol. So I just scroll through here to select what I want.
I can also go down to the bottom here and then select from the categories. So here are my frequently used emojis and symbols. If I want to select an emoji related to an activity, I select this, and it brings me to all of the activity emojis. I want to select a symbol, such as a copyright symbol or trademark symbol. I go over to the right here to show the next categories, and then I go over to Letterlike Symbols, and from here, you’re going to see registered trademark as well as copyright. From here, I just select what I want to add. Let’s go with the registered trademark, and we can see it added the registered trademark there.
Now I mentioned that this was available within any app. I’m going to quit out of Notes here, and now let’s go over to Pages. We’re going to open up a new document. So this is going to be a blank document. I want to add an emoji, maybe a smiley face. From here, I just go up under Edit in the menu bar. We go down to Emoji & Symbols, we have our window that opens up, and I can scroll to find what I’m looking for or just go down to the category. We’re going to go to the emoji category, and I select my emoji. So let’s go with this one here, and we can see it added to here. Let’s go and add a letter like character such as trademark. Again, I go up under Edit in the menu bar. We go down to Emoji & Symbols, and from here I go to the category, we’re going to go with the letterlike again, and then I go to the trademark, and we can see I added it there.
These are text, which means I can resize them. If I were to select them and then go over to the right where I have the size here, let’s go ahead and make this 20. You’re going to see it does resize them. Let’s make this 50. We can see it resized them. So even though they’re emojis and symbols, we can format them like text or at least change the size of them like text.
So that’s how we add emojis and symbols to our documents on the Mac. All we have to do is just open up any document that accepts text, could be a note, it could be Messages, it could be in Pages, it could be in Microsoft Word. Once we have that document open, we place our cursor where we want our text, and then under Edit, you’re going to see at the very bottom Emojis & Symbols. Select that, a new window will open up, and then just click on any emoji or symbol that you want to add to your document.
So that’s how you add emojis and symbols to documents on the Mac.
