Automatically delete items in the Trash after 30 Days

In this video, I will show you how you can have your Mac automatically remove or delete any items in the Trash that is older than 30 days. This is an easy way to have your Mac empty your Trash for you automatically. Let’s see how this works. Let’s go to my Mac.

Now, as you probably know, when you throw something away in your Trash, it stays there until you empty the Trash. Once you empty the Trash, you can no longer recover it. If you do not empty your Trash, your Trash can get full of old files. Think of it as your trash can in your kitchen. Eventually, when you throw something away, you have to empty it because it gets to be so full. Well, the same thing with your Mac. This could get full. It takes up space that you may need for other documents. So what you need to do regularly is empty the Trash. You can also empty the Trash by going up to the Finder and then going to Empty Trash.

But you can have your Mac do this automatically. It will empty the Trash or remove any items from the Trash here if it is over 30 days. So if you throw something away, you have 30 days to recover it. After 30 days, it’s going to delete it permanently.

So how do we set this up? Well, all we need to do is go to our Finder preferences. So I go up under Finder in the menu bar, and then we go over to Preferences. From here, what we need to do is go to Advanced. Under Advanced, you’re going to see Remove Items from the Trash after 30 days. All I have to do is just select this, and now what’s going to happen? If I throw something away after 30 days in the Trash, it’s going to remove it.

So that’s how we can have our Mac automatically remove any items in the Trash after 30 days. This is a way of managing your Trash or managing the space of your Mac automatically. All you have to do is just go over to your Finder preferences, and then under Advanced, you’re going to see Remove Items from the Trash after 30 days. Select that, and anything that you add to your Trash, after 30 days, they will be automatically fully removed from your Mac.
