In this lesson for macOS Mojave, I look at the new gallery View when viewing files and folders in a Finder Window. With the Gallery view, we can view our files and folders as large thumbnails in a gallery view. See this new view for Finder windows in this lesson for macOS Mojave.
Video Transcript (video also has closed captions):
In this video, we’re going to look at the new Gallery view we have in a Finder window. Let’s go to my Mac. The first thing we need to do is open up a Finder window. I’m going to go down to my Finder here; I click on it, we have a new Finder window. Now, what I’m going to do is I’m going to hide the preview. Over on the left side here, you’re going to see we have our files and folders. To the right, we have this little area here, which is blank right now. This is our preview. If I were to click on a file or folder, let’s click on this file here, we can get a preview of that file. We’ll talk a little bit more about this in another lesson when we talk about metadata. This is where we can view all the metadata.
What I’m going to do is I’m going to hide this preview. To do that, we go up under View in the Menu bar, and then we go to Hide Preview. Now, I’m just looking at my files and folders. We have a few different ways to view these files and folders. I can view them in icon view; this is how I’m viewing them right now. I can also view them as a list; this is nothing new in macOS Mojave. I click on the list, and now I can see them as a list. I click on the triangle, and I can see what’s in that folder.
We also have a Column view. Click on this, and now I can see them as columns. If I go to my Downloads folder, I can see what is in that Downloads folder. Well, we have a new view here, we have a Gallery view. This used to be called Cover Flow, and it’s a little bit different than Cover Flow. What I’m going to do is, I’m just going to click down here, so I’m in my Noteboom tutorials folder. Now, let’s take a look at our new Gallery view.
I click on it, and you’re going to see I have all of my files and folders across the bottom. I can scroll left and right to view all of them. Above our files and folders, we have a Preview. Right now, I am looking at this image here. This here is a PDF, I click on it, and I can see the PDF. This particular document is a pages document. Now, I’m going to get a preview of that pages document. Then if I scroll over, I have this movie here. I click on the movie, and I can get a thumbnail of the movie. When I move my cursor underneath it, we have our play options. I click on the play button, and it’ll start playing that video. When we select a folder here, it just shows me that folder.
That’s the new Gallery view in macOS Mojave.
