In this video, we’re going to look at where Apple moved Do Not Disturb with macOS Big Sur. You used to find it under the Notification Center. Well, it is no longer located in the Notification Center. It’s located in the Control Center. Let’s take a look at Do Not Disturb in macOS Big Sur. Let’s go to my Mac.
Now, as I mentioned in the introduction, in past versions of macOS, if you wanted to turn Do Not Disturb on, where you would not get any notifications, what you would do is you would go to your Notification Center. Then you swipe down, and you’ll see a toggle for turning on Do Not Disturb. Well, you’ll see that when I do that with macOS Big Sur, I do not have any toggle to turn on Do Not Disturb.
So now, how do I turn on Do Not Disturb? Well, it’s located in the Control Center. This is new with macOS Big Sur. When I click on this, I have a Control Center with various controls. One of them being Do Not Disturb. If I want to turn on Do Not Disturb, to where I do not receive any notifications, which is what I usually do when I record, I click on this, and then I can set how long I want Do Not Disturb to be on. So let’s go with until this evening; I wanted to turn back off after this evening. So now what it’s going to do is it’s going to turn off Do Not Disturb at seven o’clock tonight. Now I just click to get outside of that, and Do Not Disturb is turned on. I will not receive any notifications until after 7:00 PM tonight.
We can also schedule this. Scheduling works the same way as it did in previous macOS versions; you do this through the Notifications preference pane. So I select this, it opens up my System Preferences, and it brings me to Notifications, and under Notifications, we have Do Not Disturb. And from here, I can schedule Do Not Disturb.
So that is where Do Not Disturb now is located with macOS Big Sur. It is no longer located within the Notification Center; it’s located in the new Control Center. Just open up the Control Center, click on Do Not Disturb, and you can set how long you want Do Not Disturb to be on. If you want to schedule it, you still go through the Notifications preference pane, located within System Preferences.
So that’s how we access Do Not Disturb in macOS Big Sur.
