Now with some of these widgets that we add to our Today view and our Home Screen, we can edit those widgets. As an example, we can set what location the weather widget is going to get its information from. Let’s see how we do this on the iPhone. Let’s go to my iPhone.
Now, as I mentioned in the introduction, what we can do with some of these widgets, but not all of them, is edit them. So, how do we edit these widgets? Well, the first thing we need to do is we need to tap and hold on it. So let’s go and edit my weather widget here. We can see it as for Holland. I want to change the location. To edit this, we tap and hold on it. And then you’re going to see edit widget. When I tap on this, the widget flips around, and now I can change the location. I tap on this set in my new location. Let’s go with Key West. When I tap outside here, it will apply those changes, and we’re looking Key West weather.
Let’s take a look at a widget in my today view; we can do the same thing with widgets in the today view. I’m going to swipe over to the right. We have my calendar widget. I want to change what calendar this widget gets its events from. I tap and hold on it. We have edit widget; tap on it. It flips around. We can see it as mirroring my calendar app. I don’t want it to do that. I want to select the calendar that it is getting its events from. So I turn this off. And when I do that, I’m able to tap on this and select what calendars I want to show my events from. So let’s leave this one with us holidays. I de-select everything; I tap on done. And then, I tap outside here to apply the changes. And now, this calendar will only show me holiday events.
Now, where we can get clever with this, we can add multiple widgets of the same type. So this widget here is of Holland. This is a weather widget of Holland. I want to add another one for Key West. All I have to do is tap and hold on. We get to our jiggly mode. If you recall, we tap on the plus to add another widget, a swipe up; I go down to weather here. I’m going to go with the same size. I drag it up. I’m going to place a here and now let’s go on move this widget here next to it. So I drag this up and place it next to it. Now I have my two weather widgets next to each other, but they are, for the same location, let’s go and change this one to Key West. I tap on done. Now, what I do is I tap and hold on this until I get my edit widget. I changed this to Key West. Tap outside to close it. And now we can see, we have one for Holland and one for Key West. I can do the same thing with my widgets on my home screen.
Now I mentioned that not all widgets are editable. If I go to my photos here, this is a photo widget. I tap and hold on it. You’re going to see; I do not have the option to edit the widget. So you are not going to be able to edit all of your widgets.
So that’s how we edit our widgets on the iPhone with iOS 14. All we have to do is tap and hold on any one of the widgets. We can do this from our Home Screen or our Today view. If we can edit that widget, you’re going to see a pop-up menu, where we have an option to edit the widget. Tap on that, the widget will flip around, and then you can make any changes. Once you make your changes, you tap outside of it to apply the changes. And you’ve just edited a widget.
So that’s how you edit your widgets on the iPhone.
