Learn how to make an app open in full-screen when it is in Split-view on the iPad
If you’ve opened an app in split-view on the iPad, you probably noticed that every time you open that app, it opens in split-view again. How do you open that app back up in full-screen again? There are a few ways to do this on the iPad. See how to open an app back in full-screen after it is set to open in split-view in this video for the iPad.
Video TranscriptionIn this video, we’re going to look at how we can remove a split view from the iPad. Basically, when we open up an app in Split View, maybe we have two apps side by side, every time we open up that app, it opens up in Split view, how do you get it to open back up in full screen, no longer in Split View? Well, let’s find out. Let’s go into my iPad. So I’m looking at my iPad here. And if I were to open up my mail app, watch what happens, I’m going to go to mail in my dock here, I open it up, it opens up in Split View, I have my mail on the left side here. While I have my messages app on the right, if I go open up Safari, let’s go ahead and open up Safari here, it opens up in full screen. But then when I go back over to mail, or messages, it opens back up in Split view, what I would like to do is have these apps open back up in full screen, I no longer want to have them as split view.

How do we do that? Well, there are several ways to do this. One way is to go to this vertical line here in the center. And all I have to do is just drag this to the left or right edge of my display of my iPads display, and it will open up in full screen. So if I drag this over to the right, what it does is it sets the width for mail and messages. But if I drag it all the way over to the right, it just opens up mail in full screen. So that’s one way just take that vertical line and just drag it to the right or left edge of your display.

If I go back over to messages here, we can see that is in full screen as well. But there are other ways to do it, I’m going to go open this back up in Split View. So I’m going to view all of my apps. And to put an app in Split View, all you have to do is just drag one on top of the other. So I’m dragging my mail on top of messages here. And now when I tap on this, it’s going to open up these two apps side by side. So this is one way dragging this vertical line here. Another way is to tap on these three dots up here, towards the top of the app, we have it at the top of mail. And then we also have it at the top of messages. When I tap on this, what I’m able to do is set how I want you to display the app. Well, in my case, what I want to do is open it up in full screen. So I go over to the left icon here. And then when I tap on this, what it will do is it’ll open up the Messages app in full screen, thereby opening up the mail app in full screen. So let’s go ahead and tap on this.

Now the Messages app is in full screen and again, my mail app is in full screen. Let’s go and put this back into split view, we have another way of doing this, I’m going to open them back up, I have my mail on the left, and I have messages on the right. Another way of doing this is by going to where you can view all of your open apps. So what I do is I drag from the bottom here, just up slightly in pause. And now I can see all of my open apps, we can see that this is in Split view, where all I have to do is just drag one of them out of that split view.

So let’s go ahead and drag mail here, it doesn’t matter which one I could do mail or messages, but I just drag it out of there. And now when I let go, we can see that this one is in full screen males in full screen, and then messages in full screen. So now I just tap on this and they’re back in full screen, I want to move them back into split view, I just go back up to the top here, tap on three dots. I click on the Split View icon. I select which app I want to open up. This time, I’m going to go with mail. And now they’re back in Split View. And again, to close it, this is probably the way that I usually do it, I just drag this over to the right edge. And now they’re both open in full screen. If I go in and view all of my apps, we can see that messages here is in full screen as well as male. So that’s how we can open up apps in full screen once they’ve opened up in Split View. Basically, we can take that vertical line the separates the app, drag it to the left or right of your iPads display. We can also go to the three dots above each app, and then tap on the Full Screen icon. And then another way is through viewing all of your open apps and then just dragging it outside of the split view. It’ll open it up in full screen. When you open up one app and full screen, the other app by default will also go into full screen. So that’s how we can open up an app and full screen once it’s been open in Split view on the iPad.
