Comparing the Files App on iPad to the Finder on Mac

In this video, I compare the Files app on the iPad with the Finder on the Mac. My goal here is to make Mac users more comfortable with the Files app on the iPad. I find that these two apps are actually quite similar.

I start the video out by discussing the similarities and differences in the interface between the the Files app and the Finder. Both the Files app and the Finder are file management systems that allow users to navigate through folders, search for files, and preview them. However, there are differences in the way users interact with them. For instance, the Files app is designed for touch-based interactions while the Finder is designed for mouse and keyboard interactions.

I also take your through various tasks that can be performed on both the Files app and the Finder. As an example, I demonstrate how to change the view of files and folders, how to sort them, and how to group them by kind or date in both the Files app and the Finder. I also show how to move files and folders using both the Files app and the Finder, and how to drag files between multiple windows in both systems.

I demonstrate how to select multiple files and folders in both the Files app and the Finder. I also demonstrate how to search for files, favorite folders, use the contextual menu, and use Quick Look on both systems.

Towards the end of the video, I explain how to connect cloud storage services and access files from the iPad’s home screen. I also show how to add multiple widgets for the Files app.

I found that when I realized how similar these two apps were, it made the Files app a little easier to use. I hope you find this comparison helpful in using the Files app on your iPad!
