New iPhone Tip: Show Week Numbers in the Calendar App on the iPhone

In this tip for the iPhone, I show how an app can get ‘lost’ on the iPhone. This happens when you tap-and-hold on an app to open it. Once you tap-and-hold on an app for a prolonged period of time, you can move your apps around on your home screen. From there, instead of opening it, I’ve seen people inadvertently drag the app they want to open on to another app, thereby placing it in a folder and ‘losing’ it. In this video, I demonstrate how this happens and what you can do to find the app again.

Screentime in macOS Catalina

New in macOS Catalina: Screen Time Preferences

In this lesson for What’s New in macOS Catalina, I look at the new Screen Time preferences on the Mac. The Screen Time preference pane has replaced Parental Controls, found in older versions of macOS. With Screen Time, you can see the amount of time an app has been open, limit its usage or limit a category of app usage, such as games. You can also set a passcode to override any restrictions, and add content restrictions. Take a look at the new Screen Time preferences in macOS Catalina in this video.

New in Photos in macOS Catalina

New in macOS Catalina: Updated Photos App

In this lesson for What’s New in macOS Catalina, I look at the new TV app. In previous versions of macOS, you rented and purchased videos through iTunes. This is also where you would import your own movies. With macOS Catalina, you do this through the new TV App. You rent, purchase, and import movies directly through the TV App. You can create playlists and download movies and TV shows as well. In this lesson, I go through the interface and the basics of the new TV app in macOS Catalina.

New in macOS Catalina: Manage iOS Devices with the Finder

In this lesson for What’s New in macOS Catalina, I look at how you manage your iOS devices through the Finder instead of through iTunes. Just plug in your iPad or iPhone, while using macOS Catalina, and your device will show in any Finder window under Locations. From there you can manage your backups, restore your iOS device, mange your media including movies and music, and more. I demonstrate how all this works in the lesson.
